Curzon Club, Site, Reading

The brief: Replacement of old abandoned gentleman's club and erection of residential units.
The residential building was designed with shops and services on the ground floor to provide better economic means back into the busy oxford road of Reading.
There is already a large residential block proposed behind the site so given that was allowed we were able to go higher behind the main high street to allow for more units. This also created a great opportunity to create rooftop gardens, reinstating lost vegetation in the area as well as providing an area for the residents to relax, overall improving their well-being on site.

Project Objective:
The objective of the project is to replace the old abandoned gentleman's club with a modern residential building that will provide quality housing to the residents of Reading. The project also aims to provide economic opportunities to the area by incorporating shops and services on the ground floor of the building.

Challenges:
The main challenge we faced during the project was obtaining planning permission to go higher behind the main high street. However, we were able to overcome this challenge by demonstrating the benefits of the project to the community and the environment by stepping the building heights and creating rooftop gardens for the residents to enjoy.
